Christmas lights are one of the most common things that people think of when they think of Christmas. At no other time of the year are such colorful lights used to decorate people's homes, fences and yards. Outdoor Christmas lights are one of the most recognizable signs that the Christmas season is approaching, as people get their homes ready for Christmas by using the most festive Christmas lighting that they can come up with. Beyond simple strings of lights, people have lit up Christmas decorations that look like all kinds of colorful Christmas characters as well as fully lit nativity scenes that tell the story of the Christmas holiday.
Christmas lights and decorations aren't just limited to Christmas light bulbs that are used in Christmas light shows and Christmas light displays; Christmas tree lights are also one of the most important parts of the season. While battery powered Christmas lights may be used for outside installations (and solar powered Christmas lights are used as well, solar Christmas lights being a good way to cut down on the price of electricity), the Christmas lighting that is used on a Christmas tree is usually plugged into the wall. You can use solar power to supply energy to your Christmas lights that are indoors as well, however. All you need to do is connect a solar panel to the power grid in your house and you can feed back energy collected from the sun during the day to reduce your electric bill.
Various companies have promotional items that they give out at Christmas and these can take the form of lights such as the Cingular Christmas light. There are also various objects and pieces of furniture that have illustrations telling the Christmas story, such as a Christmas story leg lamp or an advent calendar that is powered with Christmas lights. LED Christmas lights are beginning to become commonly used for the Christmas tree lights as well as for other lighting situations around Christmas because LEDs are becoming cheaper and easier to use than other kinds of lights (and they do not get hot like ordinary Christmas bulbs or have the same degree of fire hazard - although the fire hazard from Christmas tree bulbs is quite low as it is). Christmas lighting comes in all of these different forms and has lots of varying uses, all of which help to convey the spirit of the season.
