Exterior Lighting

Exterior home lighting is a wide ranging field with a lot of considerations to take into account. Before you start to make the first step towards installing new exterior lighting, you need to think about the variety of exterior light fixtures that are available and the principles that apply to the design of your system of exterior lights. Beyond the design considerations of flow and the way that you decide to highlight and divide up the space of the area outside of your home, you need to keep in mind the technical requirements of the exterior lighting fixtures that you are thinking of using.

To install some kinds of exterior light fixture, such as an exterior light mounting box or an exterior lamp pole, it is likely that you will have to do some digging to lay a pipe that contains the power leads running from the power at the house to your lights. It may be necessary to get special permits to do the digging and lay the pipe, depending on where you live, so be sure to research local laws. You also need to be careful that while you are digging you know the location of the other supply pipes that run to your home so you do not strike any of them as you go. If you are installing exterior gas light fixtures, it becomes an even more complicated problem as you need to shut off the gas at your house when installing the pipes for the gas exterior light and deal with the technical aspects of making sure the gas pressure is correct and the new additions to the system with your added exterior gas light don't interfere with the existing pressure. If you are going to install this kind of exterior lighting you should definitely get some to help who is experienced and knows how to assist you in gas light installation.

One of the examples of exterior lighting which is relatively simple and you may be able to easily do by yourself is installing an exterior wall light; all that this really requires is attaching the light to the wall with some kind of sturdy weather resistant fastener, and finding the right way to attach the power (sometimes these can just plug into external power outlets on your home). To do more complicated things, you'll want to talk to a lighting consultant who is skilled in exterior lighting software design and can help you set up everything from black exterior light contemporary systems to old fashioned gas light systems. Best of luck on getting your exterior lighting system working the way you need it to.
