Floor Lamps

Floor lamps are one of the most common varieties of lamp, usually consisting of a long pole on a wide stand. The stand will usually have a cord trailing from it that leads to a power outlet in the wall, and the light source itself will be high up on the pole at a point nearly level with most people's eyes when they are standing. This is the standard design of the contemporary floor lamp, although there are all kinds of floor lamp varieties such as a wood floor lamp, torchiere floor lamp, tripod floor lamp, floor lava lamp, antique floor lamp and so on.

Contemporary floor lamps include the standard kinds of incandescent bulb based floor lamps that produce a familiar yellowish white glow, along with halogen floor lamps, fluorescent floor lamps and even LED floor lamps that give you different kinds of light spectra (in some cases, a much richer full light spectrum that can make it easier to read and can feel more like the natural light of the sun). In some cases, modern floor lamps may be cordless and get their power wirelessly from a sending unit that plugs into the wall; this makes it easy to place your floor lamps anywhere that you want in the room without having to worry about tripping over cords (which can be a particularly sticky problem if you have kids). Various designs of floor lamps give you different kinds of light within a room: torchiere floor lamps give you a kind of spotlight effect on the ceiling with more diffuse light that is spread throughout the corners of the room, while a red paper floor lamp can give you a very unusual kind of tint that may or may not go with the furniture and the overall decor.

When it comes to decoration and style, antique floor lamps can create an old fashioned kind of impression for people as they enter the room, while a Tiffany floor lamp (Tiffany floor lamps are considered one of the most expensive and high class varieties of floor lamp) can create a strong classy impression as well as providing strong light to the room. Consider the various factors that go into lighting such as the kind of things that will be done in the room, the kinds of furniture and other decoration that there will be, and how the physical appearance of the lamp (as well as the kind of light that it produces) fits into the overall look of things, and you will be able to find the right floor lamps for lighting your home.
