Floor Lamps

Floor lamps are one of the most common varieties of lamp, usually consisting of a long pole on a wide stand. The stand will usually have a cord trailing from it that leads to a power outlet in the wall, and the light source itself will be high up on the pole at a point nearly level with most people's eyes when they are standing. In some cases, modern floor lamps may be cordless and get their power wirelessly from a sending unit that plugs into the wall; this makes it easy to place your floor lamps anywhere that you want in the room without having to worry about tripping over cords (which can be a particularly sticky problem if you have kids). Various designs of floor lamps give you different kinds of light within a room: torchiere floor lamps give you a kind of spotlight effect on the ceiling with more diffuse light that is spread throughout the corners of the room, while a red paper floor lamp can give you a very unusual kind of tint that may or may not go with the furniture and the overall decor.
