Fluorescent Lighting

Fluorescent lighting is a popular form of lighting for several specific rooms in the home, and many people now make use of fluorescent light fixtures for most or all of the light sources in their houses because of the many positive qualities that are associated with fluorescent lights. One of the most popular attributes of the fluorescent light is that fluorescent lamps do not use nearly as much power as the equivalent light source in an incandescent lamp. An incandescent lamp takes up a lot more power as it burns the filament that is within, while fluorescent light bulbs use less power and more voltage to light up the gas within a fluorescent tube. This difference in the technology that is used between the fluorescent light bulb and the incandescent light bulb also makes fluorescent lighting much cooler (as in temperature). We've all had the experience of burning ourselves a little at least once on an incandescent light bulb. Today, with more and more people switching to more cost effective fluorescent bulbs that produce the same degree of light (earlier fluorescent bulbs were known for providing softer light than their incandescent equivalents and this was a count against them, but they have recently become brighter and better designed), those burns may be a thing of the past.

Modern compact fluorescent light bulbs are a wonder - by stringing a long fluorescent tube around several times in a closely wound cylinder, the modern fluorescent light bulb gives you a strong point source of light. In the past, a fluorescent light fixture usually had one long tube that didn't form as much of a point source of light as an incandescent bulb, and was usually surrounded by some sort of material that made the light more diffuse and spread throughout the room. As a result, the fluorescent lamp and fluorescent lighting fixtures would be used as an overhead diffuse or ambient lighting source in kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor spaces, while incandescent bulbs would be used in lamps closer to eye level as a way to better illuminate the things in the room that required sharp lighting.

Fluorescent lighting isn't just used for simple home applications these days: fluorescent grow lights are used to help grow crops and to set up gardens under controlled conditions indoors or in greenhouses, four and eight-foot fluorescent lighting is available for large outdoor areas or for large indoor areas, and a 6 volt uv fluorescent lamp can provide interesting lighting effects with different types of materials. Fluorescent lighting parts are easy to find for all of these varieties of lighting and are in many cases among the cheapest lighting implements that you can find. These are just a few of the varied benefits you can get by using fluorescent lighting.
