Lamps

Lamps have been around in one form or another from the dawn of time, when rudimentary torches were first used to light the interiors of caves. Today, we have all kinds of sophisticated electrical lamps. In between, people developed a great range of lamps but before the invention of electricity most of them were based around the idea of some kind of burning element. Oil lamps were one of the longest running popular varieties of lamps, with the most recent kind used throughout the continent of North America and through western civilization during the late nineteenth century being the kerosene lamp. The modern lamp is electric, uses lamp shades to shield our eyes from the direct rays of the lamp's light producing element, and is typically either incandescent, fluorescent, halogen or in some cases LED.

Other kinds of lamps have been invented over recent years such as lava lamps; the lava lamp was a terrific fad during the seventies in America and produces a glow that passes through a slimy moving material within a liquid cylinder. High quality brands of lamps that are popular today include the Murray Feiss lamp, Quoizel lamp, Hubbardton Forge lamp, and Tiffany lamps such as Tiffany hanging lamps (or just Tiffany style lamps). Lamps plus other kinds of furniture or other sorts of functionality have also been brought to bear on the market, such as lamps that are integrated with tables, desks or other pieces of furniture and lamps that contain holders for various small common objects (a common feature of desk lamp bases) or lamps that have magnifying glasses and other aids to vision built into them.

The same electric lamp can be given all kinds of different looks depending on the lamp shade; this and other lamp parts are easy to get from catalogs and you can put together a lamp yourself that gives you the combination of the right kind of lighting for your purposes and the right kind of visual appearance so that the lamp can go along with the design of the other furniture and things in your room. By choosing the right kind of lamp you can cast just the right kind of light on the other things in a room; the correct lamps for a situation not only allow you to do the things that you want to do, no matter what time of day or night it is, they set off the appearance of their surroundings perfectly.
